EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS
Bring your classroom aboard the schooner Red Witch for a truly unique hands-on educational opportunity!
An Introduction to Tall Ship Sailing and Maritime Heritage of the Great Lakes (1 ½ hours)
Geared for youth, ages 8 and older, this is an ideal educational cruise for school, scout, church, and other groups who want to learn
about sailing a traditional sailing ship.
The Schooner is a living laboratory of maritime history, and to experience sailing this beautiful ship is to learn about how
America was settled, and American culture was developed.
During your time aboard, the Captain and crew will combine lively talks and hands-on demonstrations covering Tall Ship nomenclature,
(such as the parts of the boat and the rigging) history of the Great Lakes, how sailing vessels work, seamanship and safety,
and maritime arts and traditions. Then, you will cast off and set sail, and students will help hoist the sails, handle lines, trim, and steer the helm!
Weekdays COST: $400.00
Times: Lakeshore Sail charters will try to accommodate a date of your choice. Youth group educational cruises are generally scheduled at 10:00 AM or 12:00 PM.
