Tall Ship Sail Training

TRADITIONAL SCHOONER SAILING and Maritime Heritage :

A Full Day Course for Teens (12+) and Adults of all ages

This summer, we will have an inaugural educational program designed to immerse the student in an all-day workshop and training sail, aboard Red Witch. Several distinguished teachers from the ship's crew and from outside, versed in seamanship, traditional rig sailing, maritime history and navigation, will conduct workshops aboard, covering these and other topics.

A sample 4-6 hour schedule:

-Introduction to Tall ship nomenclature, rigging and basic operations.
-Safety aboard the ship
-Marlinspike seamanship and knot tying
-Pre-cruise preparation: Line handling, docking and anchoring techniques
-Sail training underway: Hoisting sails, trimming sails, steering the helm, tacking and gibing
-A short course in navigational skills and celestial navigation

Anticipated COST: $100 per adult $75 per teen 12-17. Includes lunch

Red Witch is a member of the American Sail Training Association, (ASTA), whose mission is to encourage character building through sail training, promote sail training to the American public, and support education under sail.
