Comment:Nathaniel Zirlott is my late grandfather. I was only 8 years old when the Red Witch was built but, it is one boat that I remember my papa working on because it was red. Red was my fovorite color. It makes me proud to see the pictures of him on your website that Carlton sent you. If I ever travel to Chicago , expect a reservation from me!Thanks

Comment:Our entire family took this season's first "whale watching" outing on the Red Witch in May. It was a great way to celebrate our daughter's birthday and an upcoming wedding in our family. We enjoyed helping to raise and lower the sails, steer the boat, and help with the tacking -- all under the watchful eye of Capt'n Jim and our hosts Karen n' Bruce, who know what they are doing. Our new brother-in-law, Steve, a sailor himself, really enjoyed chatting with Capt'n Jim and owner Bruce. We want to thank our hosts for the lovely SUNSET cruise we were lucky enough to get from them on their special "starter motor plan". Seriously though, if you happen to like the breeze in your hair, the whisper of the wind in the sails, and the Chicago skyline with the sun slipping below it, talk to either Bruce or Karen about arranging a sunset cruise. You will enjoy the experience and treasure the memories... as we have.

Comment:Hi, this is rather exciting for me. My husband found you on the internet. Last I heard you were in Hawaii. You see my husband and I got married in San Diego on June 13, 1987. We married on the Red Witch. Everyone who came to our wedding said it was the best wedding they'd even been to. I've got all kinds of photos. The food was great and the captain of the ship married us. It's good to know you are still around. PS I was born and raised in Chicago.

Comment:To Capt. Bruce & Karen Randall:

I am an enthusiastic admirer and proud owner of Garland Roark's complete works of nautical & adventure fiction. He was one hell of a writer--and, as he might have put it, "you can lay to that."

Yesterday, scuba-diving the cyber sea for Roark online references led me, quite unexpectedly, to treasure : the discovery of your website.

Learning about the existence of your magnificent ship and appreciating so much the inspiration behind its christening gave me such a feeling of rare delight that I wanted to share it with you. So...receive this email in the spirit of a broadside salute fired in honor of you and your Red Witch! At the helm of my, er, desk, I'm waving my hat and cheering "HURRAY!" Long live the queen...
And many happy sails to you!

Comment:The problem with proposing to my girlfriend (Holly) on the deck of the Crescendo is that afterward I am not sure whether she was more excited about the impending marital bliss or the ridiculously fantastic time she had watching the sun rise over the early morning waters of Lake Michigan. Captain Jim was at the helm. He managed to be welcoming and responsive yet totally unobtrusive -he also made delicious and much needed coffee. Holly was beautiful in the ski pants, snow hat, and mittens that I had snuck away and left below deck the day before on Jim's advice. All I had to worry about was getting the ring out of my pocket and onto her finger and, if I was unsuccessful at that, whether I would be quick enough to dive in after it. I had expected that the moment of asking her to marry me would be something I would always remember, I had not expected that I would have so much fun listening to her tell the story over and over (and over) again. Thank you for that.

Comment:My husband & I celebrated his 61st birthday yesterday evening (7/31/06) on the Red Witch out of Burnham Harbor. It was fantastic, and he thoroughly enjoyed this first-time cruise, which was a b'day gift from me. We'll be certain to let family and friends know about you so they can enjoy a cruise as well. Everything we read about the Red Witch on-line and in the press is true. Thank you for helping make his b'day a great celebration!
